PROFILE

Still only 25, Garcia continues to churn out wins on both sides of the Atlantic and notched his sixth US Tour win this year at the Booz Allen Classic. He also won the Omega European Masters and finished 2nd in the Volvo Masters in Europe, but he still seeks a first Major title, having come closest back in 1999 at the PGA Championship when memorably hunting Tiger Woods on the final day. He was also in position for US Open glory 12 months ago, only to be swept aside, like many others on a tough final day at Shinnecock Hills. The tendency to throw in the odd horror hole still holds him back, but there is little doubt that he is major material and his joint 3rd place at the 2005 US Open in June and his No 6 ranking in the World are clear proof of that.
